I have started using this drink not just for Hypothyroidism but for overall health. Health drink Ingredients:

    • 2 cups of coconut milk
    • 1 tbsp coconut oil
    • 1-inch piece of sliced ginger / 1 teaspoon ginger powder
    • 1 teaspoon turmeric
    • 1 tablespoon organic honey
    • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

In a bowl, mix the ingredients, except for the honey. Mix them well, transfer the mixture to a saucepan, and place it over low heat. Cook it for 5 minutes, and add the honey at the end.

This delicious and healthy drink is easy to prepare, and it soothes the stomach, enhances digestion, prevents acid reflux, helps you sleep, and aids in weight loss. Just make sure the temp is really low, or you kill the good stuff.

It is said that over 80% of hypothyroid patients have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, which is an auto-immune problem. I have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (it means that my body builds antibodies to my thyroid gland). To prevent, or slow down, autoimmune reactions:

    • I stopped eating wheat and its products (increases permeability of the lining of the digestive system).
    • Try do not eat grains (buckwheat is OK because it is not a grain but a seed) due to proteins similar to gluten.
    • Filter drinking water with ZeroWater filter to remove fluoride (the only counter-top filter that removes fluoride).
    • Try to exercise,
    • And, do not eat sugar.

Make it similar to the above drink by Kajal every night. My drink has:

    • 1 Tablespoon of turmeric paste (1/4 cup of turmeric powder cooked on low heat in 1/2 cup of water for 10 min; stored in the refrigerator)
    • 6 black peppercorns
    • 1 in of ginger
    • 1 Tablespoon of coconut oil
    • No sweetener or a pinch of stevia
    • 2 cups of coconut milk.

Also, I read that Ghee will help to normalise hormones (1-2 teaspoons per day). I did not try Ashwagandha but read that it may be beneficial for hypothyroidism patients. And I take 1/2 drop of liquid iodine every day and 6 brazil nuts (for selenium).

Iodine and D3 will usually reverse hypothyroidism. Both are required for your thyroid to function. Your sister-in-law needs to re-evaluate and confirm her allergies.

She said something about the contrast. I'm not really sure. She can eat fish but can't have the medicine that the doctors want to treat her with.

This is what she sent me, so I guess it's not an allergy to iodine itself-which is why she can eat fish.

That article explains it clearly. She’s not allergic to iodine, she’s allergic to contrast used in medical imagery. It’s a compound that contains many other elements besides iodine; it is not a per se iodine allergy. My wife used 560mcgs of iodine per day, but you can safely go up to 1 gram per day.

There are different "kinds" of iodine. Some forms are too strong and cause issues. If she uses regular salt, then she is taking in the form of iodine every day. Iodine is added to salt because the body requires it for function. Agreed with Benton, the type used for contrast is different than dietary iodine.
