If the cholesterol is high, you need to find out why. Cholesterol is anti-inflammatory and is there to protect you. That being said, total cholesterol and even LDL and HDL mean nothing. You need to know the # of particles and the size. Small particles mean the cholesterol is oxidized, and that is the type that will cause problems, but you still have to find out the cause. Cholesterol is oxidized by toxins and sugar. If you have high LDL and the particles are large, they will not cause a problem. The test that is needed is the NMR test. Do not take a statin drug. They cause diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, muscle pain and weakness, etc.

Red yeast rice, high doses of Niacin and Omega 3, a protocol that has balanced my ratios. Would recommend seeing a naturopath as that is who I work with to stay on top of it. Diet doesn’t have too much effect on those with genetically high cholesterol, so it’s important to know which you have, genetic or diet related.

Oh nooo, pretty sure it’s hereditary.

Thea is totally on point. Check to see what your Lipoprotein(a) is as well. Also, they can check and see if you have dense, compact cholesterol or large and fluffy. A functional doc can help you with this. Finally, add garlic to what Thea mentioned above.

yes my doc said he wants my cholesterol to be like beach balls, not baseballs????

I will be seeing a Nephrologist and will talk to them about the right things to consume. My Kidneys can’t handle certain things. I am pretty sure that magnesium was a no-no. It is normal for me to have protein and potassium in my urine.

I have had the same experience. One doctor told me to take stations, or he couldn’t help me. I moved on. I researched and found acupuncture helps to improve communication between pancreas and liver. I am apprehensive to try Acupuncture but read that Acupressure can also work. I am into “tapping” and have been doing that periodically. Also, use red rice yeast and avoid eating saturated fats or foods high in cholesterol.

A good start would be to stop using table and kosher salt & switch to sea salt, the white kind, not the grey kind. Reduce prepackaged foods which all contain this type of salt and find a good homeopathic doctor nearby.

Also, it’s not fat, eggs and meat that is causing your cholesterol to be high. It’s the sugar, starches, and carbs in your diet. Eliminate them, and it will go down.

Check out the research on Omega 6 vs. Omega 3. Bad ratio and Omega 6 is the culprit. That’s why a vegan diet doesn’t always work, those oils, careful what you cook with.

My dad and my stepmom had dangerously high cholesterol levels and did not want to take statins. I told them about the benefits of using Oreganol for lowering cholesterol and the next time they went to have their blood work done; their cholesterol levels were perfect!

You just need to concentrate on your diet, get away from the “Quack,” enough is enough. You just need to research your diet and make some changes. If it really concerns you, naturopaths can offer some insight about diet, herbal tinctures and lifestyle changes to offer support.

If you want to reduce LDL cholesterol, you have to stop eating anything with added sugar. You must, or anything else will not work. Cholesterol in food does not equate to high cholesterol in humans, that is a myth, sugar is the culprit.

A low carb diet completely corrected my cholesterol. I tried the statin, and it made me feel so weak I couldn’t lift a coffee mug. I threw it out. A low carb diet corrected my triglycerides. Went from 198 down to 48!

My good cholesterol went up, and bad went down. Read a book called – The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living! It explains the science behind low carb and how it works. Don’t be terrified, and don’t take the statin. Statins can damage muscle, and your heart is a muscle. Think about it. It also corrected my blood sugar and fibromyalgia pain.

I thought I read somewhere, the true cause of cholesterol comes from grains, and a lack of vitamin C. So that would make sense that a low carb diet works.

        0

Many grains are over processed so it turns to sugar in the gut or digestive system somewhere, so yes, I can see that. Yes, the lack of vitamin C is implicated in heart disease in a book called Primal Panacea.

Lessi, That’s not true. High cholesterol in humans comes from the fact they eat dead animal parts that are filled with cholesterol. The human body makes its own cholesterol we need it to live. However, when you eat animals, you get animal cholesterol in your body which the human body can not process. The answer is to go vegan and eat all the fruits, nuts, veggies and grains you like.

Ummm just no. I eat meat every day, up to 100 grams of protein and my cholesterol corrected for the first time in many years. I tried vegan, and it did not work for me.

My fibromyalgia pain reduced on a low carb diet, eating meat. My extreme dry eye corrected too. My eye has not had pain in almost 2 years on low carb because it reduced inflammation.

Read The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living. Nothing wrong with protein from meat. Grains are not suitable for many people. It creates inflammation. Nothing wrong with animal fat. It’s fat combined with sugar and processed carbs that negatively affect cholesterol.

Cholesterol is NOT harmful! I repeat it is a lie! You need Cholesterol to protect your brain from Dementia. Dementia levels are skyrocketing due to these doctors and big Pharma reducing it/blocking it. The problem is not cholesterol; it is a lack of amino acids in the diet by consuming Frankenfood like products instead of real food.

These missing amino’s nourish your blood vessels so they are smooth and cholesterol floats right along as it was meant to. The blood vessels become abrasive, and cholesterol can no longer flow through as it is intended to. Lowering your cholesterol is dangerous.

There is no BAD cholesterol… it is a Pharma deception. Another example is “Low Fat.” Fat is required to nourish and lubricate your body. Margarine is plastic and petroleum – a frankenfood. Butter is nourishing. Fat is our friend, and by deception, many are in poor health as a result.

Milk is a prime example. You MUST have the fat in order to process the sugars in Milk. Why do we have so many diabetics? No fat to break down the sugars… everybody buys low-fat milk, yogurt, etc. Real food has elements that help metabolize the food. Stripping it and replacing with frankenfood ingredients is causing disease and illness. Don’t buy the lies! Great-great-grandparents lived to ripe old age eating food cooked in fat and remained sharp as a tack.

Good fat diet and less carbs. Never go on low-fat, that will not fix the problem. Also organic apple cider vinegar (Bragg’s) – drink it with water or use it on salads with olive oil instead of salad dressings. I’ve been doing this for years now, and my cholesterol has dropped as well as blood sugar.

I never had them over the limits, but they were close to the upper side before. Now blood sugar and lipid panel non-fasting results are within the limits like I actually fasted for 12 hours. I also did intermittent fasting from 8 pm till 12 noon the next day for months, and the rest of the day I ate about 6 small meals (half the quantity of the usual).

If your HDL is high, they say it is good to get the breakdown. Also, the Statins only reduce the numbers but are said to increase incidences of heart attack and stroke, so do a lot of research. Do you know 70 to 80 % of people take statins? What did they do before statins… have fewer heart attacks that is what! Also, Clark Howard almost died because he combined Statin and Cipro so lots of complications with that med.

    1

No reason in the world to take statins. All they give you is a nicer blood test, but do not lower the risk of dying from heart disease one iota. Statin does lower cholesterol by blocking the liver from making cholesterol. But the whole point of lowering cholesterol is to lower the risk of heart attack.

Statins do not lower the risk of heart attack. This was proven years ago. They offer NO health benefits and have a long list of serious side effects. It’s so easy to lower cholesterol by dietary and lifestyle changes, which result in REAL health.

As soon as someone hits the age of 40, doctors put them on statins as “prevention,” and they are on this drug for the rest of their life! More than half of the U.S. adult population are taking statins. They affect your liver negatively, which is the organ that regulates cholesterol in the body.

I am a naturopath. I know what I’m talking about. I’ve studied the research on statins. A large percentage of patients come to me in order to get off of statins due to the serious side effects, including impotence in males. Proven research shows people on statins have the exact same risk of dying from heart disease as people with high cholesterol NOT taking statins.

Don’t eat sugar of any kind even Aspartame, etc. Only honey sparingly eat fruit though. Find vegetable or fruit smoothies, get a Blendtec or the other I forget. Make good fats part of your diet. Consume avocado, nuts (little), seeds, grass-fed beef, Chickens, etc. Find a farmer; I have two. All the “organic” meat in grocery stores are fed organic corn, so there is no nutritional value in “organic ” meat.

I have slightly high cholesterol, but my ratio for heart attack is really low, i.e., 0.2%. It should be below 2.5% I believe.

Look into milk thistle, Check your vitamin D, Exercise daily, 15 min is good. No bread, even wheat is bad. Palio is the way to go.

I was on cholesterol medicine ON and OFF for 10 years with constant muscle pain from the drugs. Tried every drug. The last one the muscle pain went up to my arms; the others were only my legs. It scared me because I then had a patient who had kidney failure due to statins.

Remember our bodies naturally produce more cholesterol as we age to help protect our brains from dementia.

There are no long term studies on these statins, so it’s your body that’s at risk. More people are dying of heart attacks, and more people are on drugs.

My cholesterol is 240; I’m ok with that. Every other LDL, etc. are amazing. I’m hoping dementia is not on my radar. High sugar diets are causing high cholesterol. Read the “Grain Brain” by Dr. Perlmutter.

You do not have to go vegan. My husband hates veggies. Is a meat eater, he did start eating more veggies, but he definitely did not give up meat! I cut back on red meat, eating more fish and absolutely NO processed food.

The biggest thing was the oatmeal. I get Bobs Red Mill Organic oatmeal, sweeten it with either brown sugar or pure maple syrup and add nuts and flaxseed. We drink almond milk and use olive oil and coconut oil.

Buy organic when I can. The Dr was freaking at how high his levels were, insisted statins, we did it with diet alone, and when he went back in 30 days his levels were normal, the Dr was shocked.

Stay away from fried foods. A fast way to lower cholesterol is by making oatmeal smoothies for breakfast or lunch. Soak oatmeal for about 10minutes, drain the water and add to blender with almond milk. Add some banana or your favorite fruit for sweetening and cinnamon for taste. Drink this everyday guarantee it works!. That’s what I did and since I’m not a breakfast eater oatmeal smoothies do the job, and it sure does keep cholesterol in check.

Increase your healthy fats ie butter, lard, avocado, nuts, olives, olive oil, fish oil. Bad (LDL) fats attach to them and are ushered out of the body. You will raise your HDL profile, effectively reducing your LDL (bad) fat.

Also, if you take calcium, you MUST take Vitamin K2 (diff from K1) as it too takes the calcium from the bloodstream to the hair, nails, and bones. Calcium will sit in your bloodstream if you don’t. Additionally, remove wheat, barley, and rye… all of which convert to sugar in about 3 minutes flat, provides little nutritional value & is all sugar.

Did you say healthy fats… lard? can you explain what you mean by healthy lard, thought that was not healthy, thanks!

        1

Well, lard is a healthy cooking fat as it can be heated to high heats before breaking down and becoming rancid. Rancid means burnt and oxidized. When that happens with our fats (trans fats, for instance), the molecular structure is damaged.

The result is free radicals, which scavenge from our healthy cell. They are trying to repair themselves, so “steal” from the healthy cell, but they can’t repair themselves and destroy our healthy cells while trying to do so.

Lard is stable at high heat, unlike butter or olive oil, which have low burn points and once burnt, again, they become damaging free radicals and destroy our good cells. Lard is good cause it is not burnt when purchased, unlike vegetable oils, etc.

          0

Thank you… makes sense and as a kid in the 40’s we did use lard, that was before the vegetable oils. I read that you should not cook with extra virgin olive oil because it can not be heated very high before I guess oxidizing as you mentioned. I have been using coconut oil for high heat… is that ok?

            0

You are right! Lard was always used, and it was perfectly good! But veggie oil was cheap and naming it vegetable oil; everyone thought how bad could a vegetable be for you. All fats have “smoke” points, and cooking at or below is critical.

Olive oil has a very low smoke point, Coconut oil is great. It has the highest saturated fat of all and a very high smoke point. Coconut oil will help to reduce your bad fats if you eat them.
